Making the Switch to Eco-Friendly Lighting In Your Off-Road Camper Trailer

These days, many of us are becoming more aware of how we interact with the world around us and the impact that we have on our environment. There’s been a recent push to switch to green technologies that have had far-reaching effects on the off-road camping community. Hobbyists have to work to preserve the world that they enjoy exploring out on the open road.

Luckily, reducing your carbon footprint doesn’t necessarily mean complicated or expensive upgrades to your camping equipment. Switching to LEDs is a fast, affordable update that you can make to the interior decor of your camper that will be easy on the eyes -and on your electricity bill.

About LED Lighting

LEDs, or Light Emitting Diodes, are quickly gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional incandescent light bulbs. Instead of heating a filament, LEDs pass electrons through a semiconductor to produce light.

A lot of older RVs don’t have an LED lighting system, as it used to be expensive to install and difficult to maintain. With advances in LED lighting in recent years, however, switching to LED options has become a popular choice amongst environmentally-conscious off-road camper trailer owners. LED lights are now just as durable as traditional bulbs, though often they are still slightly more expensive. A longer lifespan makes using LEDs cheaper in the long run, however.

Energy Savings

LEDs are able to provide just as much light as incandescent bulbs while using 75% less power.  The main draw of switching to LEDs means not only an eco-friendlier off-road camper but also a more well-lit cab and a longer battery life. You can illuminate your off-road camper for hours without worrying about draining your energy reserves. This can be especially important if you’re camping off the grid.

Lower Bills

Keeping your electrical usage low can help to keep costs down, especially on long trips. Most parks and campgrounds charge for electricity usage alongside rent, and over time, costs can add up. LEDs allow you to run your lights for longer without worrying about racking up charges.

Safety Considerations

Most of us have had the experience of trying to change a lightbulb when it was still too hot. Incandescent bulbs use heat to produce light, and if left on, some can grow hot enough to burn skin. LEDs, on the other hand, emit little to no heat. You can avoid accidental burns and reduce the risk of your trailer catching on fire.

If you’re concerned about the impact your off-road camper trailer is having on the environment, you can make your hobby eco-friendlier by switching to LED lighting. You’ll use less energy, lower your bills, and even improve the overall safety of your camper trailer.

Ultimate Off-Road Campers says: These days our off-road camper trailers have LEDs installed as standard – Galley lights, Bed lights, Shelf light and Flood/Reverse light. If you have an older off-road camper trailer from Ultimate, you can always upgrade by calling us on 02 44744410 or emailing us.
