Ultimate began in 1994 when Michael and Wendy Hackett went looking for a better way to camp, then built it themselves.

Batemans Bay · 1994

A camper shaped by another industry.

Michael Hackett was a boat builder experienced in luxury-yacht construction. When conventional tents and vehicle-based camping did not suit the way Michael and Wendy wanted to travel, they applied marine composite techniques, aerodynamic thinking and practical camping experience to a new off-road trailer.

The distinctive moulded form looked unlike anything else. It was lightweight, compact and opened into a generous living space. The name followed naturally: they believed they had created the ultimate camper.

Modern Ultimate camper design and 360 degree shelter system

Respect the idea. Improve the execution.

Stewardship, not reinvention for its own sake.

Since taking stewardship in November 2018, Eagle Outdoors has focused on protecting what made Ultimate distinctive while building on it with contemporary power, comfort, manufacturing and material systems.

The current leadership brings more than three decades of experience across canvas, waterproof garments, tents, swags and outdoor fabrics. That knowledge informs how Ultimate approaches premium textiles, reflective protection, insulation, waterproofing, ventilation, construction and long-term repairability.
