Remote power planning

Estimate daily electrical demand and build sensible solar and battery margins.

Reviewed August 2026 · General information

A power plan converts every appliance into daily energy, then tests whether battery and charging can cover both average conditions and poor-solar days.

Calculate demand

For each device, estimate watts multiplied by hours of use. Add refrigeration cycling, inverter losses, standby loads and charging of phones, cameras and communications. Separate essential loads from comfort loads.

Calculate supply conservatively

  • Usable battery energy within approved depth-of-discharge limits
  • Expected solar after shade, heat and weather losses
  • Vehicle charging during actual driving time
  • Mains or generator access where permitted
  • Reserve for delayed travel or equipment failure

Use a three-day scenario

DayTest
Good dayNormal demand and strong solar
Poor dayNormal demand and limited solar
Recovery dayEssential loads plus realistic recharge opportunity
